It’s summer, 100 degrees outside and all you can think about is chopping off that beard so that maybe, just maybe, you’ll be able to hang in there just a little bit longer. We’ve all been there, but does a beard really warm your sweet cheeks up when you’re frolicking on the beach?

Try and Keep That Sucker Clean
When it’s hot, you sweat, and that sweat can really irritate the skin underneath your beard. It’s important to to keep your beard free of contaminants. Your lunch from 3 days ago has got to go. Cleaning with a good soap made for beards is a good way to send that smoked brisket down the drain. It’s not recommended to clean it everyday as that can lead to dry and itchy skin, which defeats the purpose. Once every 2-3 days should suffice.
It Puts the Lotion On it’s Skin..
Follow up the soapy suds with a good conditioner. It’s also beneficial to place a few drops of beard oil once or twice a day. This will keep your skin moisturized while you’re pounding a few back with your buds.
Does a Beard Really Matter During Summer?
This is a common idea amongst a lot of men. I’ve lost count of coworkers or friends who have a beard 6 months out of the year, but as soon as the sun starts shining, they’re back to looking like little boys. When asked, they tell you its too damn hot for a beard. Weaklings…
It turns out beards don’t provide such great insulation as we were lead to believe. Sure, having a big, thick, fluffy mass of hair on your face seems like a bad idea during the summer months, but it can actually help you stay cool. How you ask?
Remember, humans sweat, and that sweat’s purpose is to cool down the body. Luckily for us, beards act as a sweat catcher and holds onto that sweat, effectively keeping your face underneath cool. Not only that, but the UV protection from the beard is an added bonus.
So the next time someone tells you you’re insane for having a beard in the sweltering heat, you can make them feel foolish with your new found knowledge. Just be sure to tell them they better get their cheeks extra good with sunscreen or they could burn.
